Incredible Couples Getaway on Bruny Island
Our stay at the Couples Getaway in Alonnah, South Bruny Island was absolutely delightful. Here’s a breakdown of our experience:
- Comfort and Space: The cabin was spacious, modern, and very comfortable. The lounge area was perfect for relaxation, and the property was well-appointed with all necessary amenities.
- Stunning Views: The ocean views from the balcony, lounge area, and bedroom were breathtaking. The large deck was a great spot to enjoy the scenery, though it can get quite sunny in the afternoon.
- Location: The property’s central location made it convenient to explore all that Bruny Island has to offer. Nearby, there’s a hotel that serves excellent meals, and we appreciated being close to such facilities.
- Wildlife: We enjoyed the frequent visits from wallabies and pademelons in the backyard, which added a special touch to our stay.
- Well-Equipped: The kitchen and laundry were fully equipped, and the pantry was stocked with basic breakfast items and staples. This made our stay very convenient.
- Comfortable Bath: The bath at the end of the bed was a unique feature that we loved, offering an extra layer of relaxation with a view.
Minor Drawbacks:
- The bed’s wooden frame made access slightly challenging. It might not be suitable for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. A king-size mattress could potentially improve this.
- There was no Wi-Fi available, but mobile data coverage was sufficient for us. However, having Wi-Fi would have been a better convenience.
- The living room heater had a minor issue, but it was resolved quickly by the hosts.
- Some toiletries like shampoo were missing, which was a small inconvenience.
Despite these minor issues, our stay at the Couples Getaway was unforgettable. We highly recommend this property for a relaxing and scenic escape on Bruny Island.

[+] Conveniently located and easy to find with GPS. The furnishings are simple yet tasteful, and the kitchen and laundry room are well-equipped. There are some basic breakfast items provided. The bed and bathtub offer views of the street and ocean, and there’s a veranda with a water view. The space is extremely spacious for two people, with a living area that could comfortably host 4-6 people. You can also spot many wallabies and pademelons in the backyard.
[-] There is no Wi-Fi or internet available. We had a minor issue with the living room heater, but it was resolved quickly. Shampoo was not provided.

[+] The house offers excellent views and a modern one-bedroom design. However, the bed frame was highly impractical—anyone over 60 or with limited mobility would struggle to get into the bed. Despite completing numerous walks, climbing 240 steps at the lookout, and reaching the top of the lighthouse without any issues, we found the bed inaccessible and ended up sleeping on the outdated lounge. A king-size mattress might help mitigate the bed problem, and a new lounge suite is also needed. Otherwise, the stay was fantastic!
[-] Apart from the bed and lounge suite, it was a superb retreat. The padymelons in the yard were absolutely adorable.

Staying here felt like coming home to complete relaxation. Everything we needed was provided, including a well-equipped pantry and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I will definitely recommend this place to others and would book again in the future 😊

[+] The house is exceptionally comfortable, modern, and well-equipped, situated in a fantastic central location on Bruny. The pantry and fridge were thoughtfully stocked with cereals and basic staples. It offers a lovely view over the water and attracts a lot of wildlife to the yard each evening. Additionally, it’s conveniently close to a hotel that serves excellent meals, which are also available for take-out. Despite some minor issues mentioned below, it is overall a wonderful place to stay.
[-] There is no wifi, but this was one of the few places in Tasmania where we had mobile data coverage on our phones, so it wasn’t a major issue. As other reviews have noted, the bed and its surrounding box-like structure can be a bit challenging and definitely requires some agility to get in and out of. It’s not suitable for everyone. The large deck overlooking the water receives full sun during the afternoon and evening, which can be uncomfortable if the weather is hot, as it was during our stay.
